How did you get started?
We’re sisters, so we’ve been singing together since we were in car seats! We officially started our band in high school when Presley was 16 and Taylor was 14. We began recording songs, playing fairs around New England and building our own little world through music. In 2018, we moved to Nashville and dove in headfirst. We spent years honing our craft in writing rooms, studios and onstage, learning who we were as artists along the way. Since moving to Nashville, we’ve continued writing, recording, releasing music and performing all over the country. What started as two sisters singing together as kids has grown into a lifelong pursuit of making music on our own terms.
How would you describe your music?
We describe our music as Country Pop-Rock with big guitars, catchy melodies and honest, unapologetic storytelling. We love the heart and relatability of Country music, but we also pull from the energy of Pop-Rock and the edge of the Rock music we grew up listening to. We want our songs to make you feel something, whether that means singing at the top of your lungs, dancing around your room or finding yourself in a lyric. At its core, our music is about being young, making mistakes, growing up and learning to own every part of who you are.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
We’ve always been drawn to artists who combine strong songwriting with a distinct sound and personality. Shania Twain was a huge influence on us growing up, especially the way she brought Rock energy into Country music without losing its identity. We also love the attitude and edge of Avril Lavigne, the storytelling and songwriting of early Taylor Swift and the timeless harmonies and musicianship of Fleetwood Mac. We’re inspired by artists who aren’t afraid to blur genre lines and create something that feels entirely their own.
What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
First and foremost, we’re sisters, and that connection is at the heart of everything we do. There’s a natural chemistry in our harmonies, songwriting and onstage dynamic that comes from growing up together and sharing this dream for most of our lives. Sonically, we bring a guitar-driven Pop-Rock edge to Country storytelling, blending the nostalgia of the music we grew up on with a fresh, modern perspective. We’re also committed to evolving as artists rather than trying to fit into a specific mold. We want to make music that feels authentic to us, even if it doesn’t fit neatly into one box.
Tell us about your newest project. What was the inspiration behind it?
Our upcoming album, ACT MY AGE, is a project that captures a season of life we’ve been figuring out in real time. It’s about growing up, making questionable decisions, navigating relationships and realizing that becoming an adult doesn’t necessarily mean having everything figured out. There’s a sense of freedom in embracing the messiness of life instead of feeling like you have to have it all together. Sonically, the album leans into the Country-Pop-Rock sound we’ve been developing, with bigger guitars, bold hooks and an energy that feels true to who we are. More than anything, ACT MY AGE represents us giving ourselves permission to have fun, take risks and make the music we’ve always wanted to make.
As an independent artist, what has been your biggest obstacle?
One of the biggest challenges is that being an independent artist means wearing so many hats. You’re not just writing and recording music; you’re also building your brand, creating content, navigating marketing, managing budgets and finding ways to get your music in front of new listeners. It takes a tremendous amount of persistence to keep creating while also running the business behind it all. We’ve learned that there isn’t one person who’s going to build your career for you. You have to be willing to bet on yourself, learn as you go and keep showing up even when the results take time. It’s challenging, but it has also given us the freedom to make decisions that align with our vision.
What are you most proud of so far in your music journey?
We’re most proud of the fact that we’ve continued to grow and evolve while staying committed to this dream. We’ve built a community of listeners, surpassed 30 million video views, reached more than 100,000 followers on TikTok and accumulated millions of streams, all while navigating the independent music world. We’ve also had the opportunity to share our music with new audiences through national media features and CMT’s 12-Pack Countdown, where our videos for “Honky Tonk Girl” and “Heartfelt” reached No. 1. Those milestones mean a lot to us, but what we’re most proud of is the longevity of it all. We’ve been doing this together since we were teenagers, and we’re still finding new ways to challenge ourselves and grow as artists.
What is on your bucket list as an artist?
We’d love to tour internationally, play major festivals and eventually perform on some of the biggest stages in music. Getting to share our songs with a crowd that knows every word is one of the most rewarding feelings in the world, and we want to experience that on an even bigger scale. We’d also love to collaborate with artists and songwriters who challenge us creatively and open up new possibilities for our sound. Ultimately, our biggest goal is to build a lasting career where we can continue making music that excites us, connect with people through our songs and create experiences our fans will remember for a lifetime.
If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
We’d love to see the industry create more opportunities for artists to develop at their own pace without feeling pressured to chase every trend or go viral overnight. Social media has opened incredible doors for independent artists, but it can also make it feel like success is measured by a single post or a number on a screen. Building a meaningful career takes time, consistency and a genuine connection with an audience. We’d love to see more emphasis on the music itself, long-term artist development and creating space for artists who don’t fit neatly into existing categories. There’s room for so many different voices and sounds, and we think that’s what makes music exciting.
What’s next for you?
We’re gearing up for the release of our new album, ACT MY AGE, arriving October 16, and we’re excited for people to hear this next chapter of Presley & Taylor. We’ve spent a lot of time developing our sound and figuring out what we want this project to represent, and we’re ready to share that with the world. We’re focused on introducing this new era to more listeners, continuing to grow our audience and bringing these songs to life onstage. We’re approaching this chapter with a fresh perspective, a lot of creative energy and a renewed commitment to making music that feels like us. We’re excited to see where it takes us!
