Please introduce yourself.
Hi there, I’m Braden Hull. I am 23 years old and live in Nashville, Tennessee, originally from Lexington, North Carolina. I’ve worked for myself since I was 17 years old and have been in the fire service for nine years. I’ve been in the music industry professionally for three years, and signed my first record deal with Melody Place Records last spring. Since then, I’ve been touring the southeast since last fall, including select show dates with “Six Pack Coverage.”
Tell us about your newest project. What was the inspiration behind it and where can we check it out?
My new single, “End This Way” was inspired by my first heartbreak. I met this girl and fell head over heels for her. We started getting pretty serious until I was about to head back to Nashville from my hometown, and she suddenly decided to end things. That was the first time I had ever felt heartbroken, so I came home and wrote “End This Way.” It’s one of the most relatable and heartfelt songs I’ve ever written, check it out on May 1 on all streaming platforms!
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as relatable, emotional, and fun. I write about things I’ve experienced that other people can relate to. I don’t know who to compare my sound to, but I’d like to think that it’s authentic to me, so I’ll let the listener decide. I have taken influence from artists in today’s country music space and would describe my sound as more modern country.
How did you get started?
I started writing songs and posting clips on TikTok, and began learning guitar when I was auditioning for American Idol several years ago. I didn’t make it past the audition round, but following that experience I performed a song in my friend’s basement and she put it on Facebook, which gained some initial traction. Later on, another friend of mine asked me to sing some of my original songs on camera so she could send them to her contacts in Nashville and three months later I was in the studio recording my first song. I posted the song online and it BLEW up on TikTok getting me over one million views, which eventually led to my record deal year with Melody Place one year and nine months later. That song is so special because it is inspired by my parents’ divorce, so while I was in the studio I got to film my mom’s reaction to hearing it for the first time and the reaction video is still on TikTok today.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My biggest influence when it comes to songwriting is Hardy, as he’s the reason I started writing songs in the first place. I have always admired his talent as a songwriter and tried to learn as much as I could just by listening to songs he’s written. I was raised on christian music and didn’t start listening to country music until I was 14 years old. Some of my earliest country influences were Luke Combs and Cody Johnson, because I loved listening and singing along to their songs while growing up.
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
I would make it illegal for scalpers to buy tickets and resell them for an unreasonable price. I feel like that gives the artist a bad look when in reality we can’t control it.
What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
Personally, I think what sets me apart is my love for entrepreneurship and business. I have always been a businessman at heart and love working for myself and building a business from the ground up. I feel like a lot of artists in the process of “making it” forget that the music business is still a business.
What is it about music that makes you feel passionate?
I love being able to take a life experience regardless of if it’s my own or someone else’s and turn it into a song that people will resonate with. Music is part of everyone’s life whether you’re an artist or a consumer.
What’s next for you?
It’s hard to tell exactly what’s next in a business that is so unpredictable. In the coming months we’ll hopefully be touring different states across the southeast and releasing new singles regularly. I also want to keep posting often on social media to continue building my fan base.
What are your career goals in the next five years?
I would like to have my first headlining tour, play the Grand Ole Opry, have my first number one single, and more importantly, just build a sustainable and long career.
