As a muggle who has read all the Harry Potter books and seen all the movies multiple times, I was excited to receive my Hogwarts letter welcoming me to the Drone Art show this past weekend. Going through the gates the first thing I noticed were the flags of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. I was immediately asked to choose a house (Gryffindor of course), and given a light-up bracelet, which flashed in time with the show.
With a flick of a wand and the “Lumos” spell cast the sky lit up and the show began. I was curious to see how they would bring the story to life in the sky, and the results were pure wizardry. For a short while I was fully immersed in a world far away at Hogwarts.
It’s amazing what they can do with technology now. Drones have a battery span of about 45-minute flight time, so the show was split into two parts. Each was around 20 minutes. There were over 1,200 drones used to create magic, each one beautiful and realistic. They depicted characters and scenes from the saga. There was actual dialogue taken from the movies, that synced up with the lights and music perfectly. Notable moments were the sorting hat, Arthur Weasley’s famous stolen car scene, the egg clue in the Triwizard cup, a Quidditch match, and the wand duel with Harry and Voldemort.
It was truly a magical evening for muggles and wizards alike, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Harry Potter. If you get a chance to check out a show I would highly recommend it.
