Class is in session on Season 24 of American Idol. In case you missed last night’s episode, it was part two and the finale of Hollywood Week. This year they filmed in Nashville, Music City capitol of the USA.
What started as 127 golden ticket winners was first narrowed down to 60 after their live performance rounds were sent through to the golden room. But their fate didn’t end there. “It’s been a crazy Hollywood week here in Nashville. You’ve been through a lot. We’ve had to talk out your futures amongst us three, and it’s nothing we take lightly,” Luke Bryan told the 60 hopefuls before announcing they would be cutting another 30 that night.
Four contestants were thrown for a spin, as they found out they would be singing against another hopeful for the remaining two spots. Mary Jo Young would be singing against Chloe Lauren, Michael Garner against Jayson Garner.
After bringing out the remaining 58 contestants they announced the first 28 slots. Then the sing-offs. First up Jayson Garner singing Elvis Presley’s “That’s Alright Mama”. It was an energetic performance complete with his signature move of playing guitar behind his head. But it wasn’t enough. Michael Garner delivered a simple but great performance of “Drift Away” by Cobie Gray proving that he has what it takes to remain in the competition. Chloe Lauren killed it on her version of “You Stole The Show” by Sienna Spiro, reminding judges of a young Adele. Returning hopeful Mary Jo Young was up next, delivering a beautiful accapella version of Bon Iver “Skinny Love”, but judges chose Chloe.
