How did you get started?
When asked how I got started, I always go back to being six years old and hearing Taylor Swift’s “Our Song.” That moment made me realize that following my dreams was actually possible. Not long after, I began traveling back and forth between Birmingham and Nashville, writing songs with incredible people and even performing on Broadway. Fast forward to now, one of the biggest milestones in my journey was when SiriusXM’s The Highway added my song “Delusional” to their lineup. That was a huge full-circle moment for me.
How would you describe your music?
I would describe my music as catchy, clever, emotional and unapologetically honest. Every song comes from a very present place in my life, and I write exactly what I am feeling or going through in that moment.
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My musical influences are Sabrina Carpenter, Morgan Wallen, Maren Morris and Sam Hunt. Each of them inspires different elements of my storytelling, melodies and the way I blend elements of pop and country and even R&B.
What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
My commitment to authenticity sets me apart because I’m the only Remy Garrison and my music is a reflection of my world. Each era of my music correlates to a season of my life. It comes from a real place in my life and especially as I grow, I am open and honest about the messy, playful, emotional and evolving parts of being in my twenties. I think not being afraid to put it all out there is something that stands out as relatable.
Tell us about your newest project. What was the inspiration behind it?
I’m so excited to say that S.H.H. (Sad, Happy, Horny) is officially out in the world! The inspiration came from embracing every version of myself at twenty-five— especially since coming out of a five-year relationship and experiencing freedom in my adulthood for the first time. I wanted to create something bold, honest, expressive, emotional and fun. This project captures the full range of who I am and the things I was experiencing in real time while making it.
As an independent artist, what has been your biggest obstacle?
My biggest obstacles of being an independent artist, is balancing creativity with the business side. I do have a team that helps me, but there are still so many moving parts to manage at once. Handling releases, content, strategy, visuals, branding, songwriting, recording and performing at the same time can be overwhelming, but it has made me more focused and more confident in my vision.
What are you most proud of so far in your music journey?
I’m honestly most proud of the growth. I feel more aligned with my artistry than ever before. Hearing people say that my songs make them feel seen or understood is the greatest reward and the reason I keep creating.
What is on your bucket list as an artist?
My bucket list goes on and on but I always say I want to headline my own tour, win an award at any award show and collaborate with some of my favorite artists. Those are the milestones I dream about reaching one day.
If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be?
If I could change anything in the music industry, I wish I could make a lot more space for women to be fully complex. Women are often expected to fit into a specific box, when in reality we are emotional, bold, soft, dramatic, sexual, confident, vulnerable and messy all at once. I want the industry to embrace that full spectrum without reserve.
What’s next for you?
What’s next is that I am focused on promoting my new EP and continuing to release more music because creating is genuinely in my heart. I already have a completely different project in the works that I started writing around the same time as this one. I am a busy girl, and that is exactly how I like it! There is so much more on the way, and I cannot wait for everyone to experience it.
