I had the chance to visit a new haunted house this past weekend, Slaughterhouse. After going to Nashville Nightmare for the past few years I was curious to see how they might do things differently. And I was not disappointed.
The evening started off with a showing of the 50th anniversary of Jaws in the Full Moon Cinaplex. If you’ve never been, it’s a cool retro theater with the total horror vibe. There are movie posters, life size characters and giant props everywhere. We were greeted and welcomed immediately. Seems to be a popular little place. The theater was packed, with a mostly young adult crowd. I like the fact that they offer different packages. If you only want to do the haunt, it’s $35. But you can add on a movie for $8 or get the dinner, movie, and haunt option for $43. The place is run by Ben and Stacy Dixon who took over in 2014 and moved Slaughterhouse to the Hermitage location.
On this Friday night there was about a 30-minute wait. Characters came through to interact with us and take photos, which was a nice touch. One, a guy all in black with a white mask, scales, and chains must have stopped to greet every single person in line including my boyfriend and me.
As opposed to other haunted houses that have multiple separate houses, this was one continuous walk through five abandoned theaters. It took 35 minutes. I like that they had actual characters from horror movies such as Halloween, Annabelle, Terrifier. Michael Myers followed us through his section.
I also enjoyed the section with all the different door options that led back to the same spot. A maze of rooms if you will. It was a bit perplexing, and we saw others walking around in circles as well.
The actors were great, very interactive. We started replying to the taunts and they carried on conversations with us in character. Shoutout to the lady in the witch attire greeting us, she was very personable commenting on our shirts and asking personalized questions.
I had no idea what to expect nor the layout of this house being my first time, so there were lots of jump scares. My boyfriend, the horror lover, is mostly unphased. Even he was startled a few times. And when you think your finally safe…think again.
Gift shop was cool, with some unique horror film items for purchase. We had a great time. I highly recommend checking Slaughterhouse (and Full Moon Cineplex) out for yourself. The haunt runs through November 2nd, but I believe the theater operates all year round. For more information visit fullmoonslaughterhouse.com.
