Please introduce yourself.

Hi! I’m Maisy Kay, and I’m a singer-songwriter from England. Thanks for having me today!

Tell us about your newest project. What was the inspiration behind it, and where can we check it out?

My new EP is called Wonderlust: The Dawn. It was inspired by falling in love for what I think was ultimately the first time. It’s a collection of songs of pure joy and adoration, and it’s available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon on May 13th!

How would you describe your music?

I like to describe it as whimsical, ethereal pop. I’ve been compared to Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, and Sabrina Carpenter.

How did you get started?

I got started when I was 10 years old; I wrote a musical that got featured in my local paper. I was scouted by a recording studio from that article and began writing and recording my own songs. A couple of years later, I got the offer to move to America to pursue music full-time!

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I have always loved the emotional powerhouses, whether it’s Lewis Capaldi or Adele or Taylor Swift, for her heartfelt lyricism. I will say my biggest musical hero has always been Freddie Mercury.

Do you have any other influences?

I always say my mom inspires me in life. She’s the kindest person I know. Musically, I write a lot about the people around me, whether they’ve treated me poorly or wonderfully. I definitely draw a lot from my own life experiences.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

I wish it wasn’t so heavily focused on who goes viral on TikTok. I’ve struggled with that and how it’s become the main factor in what makes a “successful” artist or not. I’d love for it to be about the music and not about the numbers.

What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?

I’ve been fondly titled the butterfly queen for my love of butterflies, and I use that fantastical whimsy in everything from my merch to my live shows. I’m a huge nerd, so I would like to try to bring a bit of elven fairy fantasy into the real world if I can.

What’s next for you?

I am so excited to announce that I will be going on tour later this year and releasing a lot more new music!

What are your career goals in the next five years?

I would love to have my own tour one day and make the Billboard charts! Most importantly, I hope to keep growing as a writer and vocalist and feel proud of the music I’m making.
