Tell us about your newest project. What was the inspiration behind it and where can we check it out?
My next project is an EP, More Than Home, that will be released in the 4th quarter of 2024. The title track “More Than Home” is the first single that was released off the EP on March 29th and was inspired by my wanting to run away from everything familiar and safe the minute I graduated high school. I have grown in so many ways from my journey away from home and I have realized that everything I was running from were the very things that shaped the person I am. So, to me, “More Than Home” is a great title track for my EP. I’m excited for the remaining five songs to be released as each one shares a little more about my beliefs and my story.
How would you describe your music?
I’d say the best way to describe who I am and my upcoming music releases is, “Grit with Grace Country.” Grit and grace are the combination of elegance, poise, and kindness with tenacity, resilience, and unwavering determination. It is the ability to navigate challenges with both finesse and fortitude and to overcome obstacles with both inner strength and outward grace. This is the message I hope listeners take away from my music.
How did you get started?
My grandpa loved country music. He’d have Keith Whitley, Earl Thomas Conley, The Judds, and others blasting through the whole house. He’d say that there’s only one genre of music and that’s country! Seeing the joy on his face listening to the songs that told the story of his life, I wanted to bring him that joy too. So, I started singing to bond with Grandpa and the rest is history!
Who are your biggest musical influences?
My biggest influences have always been Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, and Wynonna Judd. When I first started working with my producer, Dean Sams, founding member and keyboardist of country supergroup Lonestar, he really wanted me to hone in on what my sound is. So you’ll also hear a lot of Bonnie Raitt and Ann Wilson (lead singer of Heart) influence as well. When we go into the studio to track songs, Dean tells the musicians, “Think Bonnie Raitt goes country!”
If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?
A lot has changed over the past couple of years as you’re seeing more female artists breaking through the glass ceiling. I love that and I hope to see that become the norm!
What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?
All I can really speak to is who I am and what my goal is when I take that stage. That goal is to hopefully impact as many people in the crowd through the messages and stories in my music, my interaction with them from the stage, or the fun we have through our shared passion for country music. I remember after one of my shows, a woman came up to me and said she wished her nephew would’ve waited one more week to hear my song. We both knew what that meant and hugged with tears. I was 15 at the time and that was my first realization that when I’m up on that stage, it’s not about me… it’s about the crowd. I also had a person come up and tell me they’ve been struggling for a few years after their divorce. Coming to my show brought them that joy they thought they would never be able to feel again. That’s the power of music.
What’s next for you?
As mentioned above, I have an EP, More Than Home, dropping in the 4th quarter this year with staggered single releases happening every 4 to 6 weeks from now until the drop of that EP. I also have three music videos in the works that I’m really excited about, and I’ll be on tour! I have a lot of dates listed on my website and am always adding more!
What are your career goals in the next five years?
I’m taking it day by day and just putting one foot in front of the other. I hope in five years I have a lot more of what I’m doing now! I have been able to meet a lot of my musical heroes like Martina McBride, Miranda Lambert, Lonestar, Joe Diffie…. I would love to meet Dolly and Reba! It would also be cool to play the Grand Ole Opry within the next five years!
