Jet Jurgensmeyer is most known for his various roles on Disney Channel and starring as Boyd Baxter on Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing. He’s all grown up now and in his first year at Belmont college in Nashville.
Jurgensmeyer is studying music business (emphasis on law). “My thought process choosing my major is I don’t want to walk into a meeting not understanding what is going on. I want people to talk to me not my lawer (or whomever)” explains Jet. Being on his own, managing his own schedule is different, but going well. “I have enough rope to keep me tied in or fall” he quips. It helps that Belmont is only 17 minutes away from his parents residence in Nashville, so he’s able to visit often.
2024 is off to great start! The focus? Music. Jet plans on releasing his debut album within the next few months. Two singles, “Falling Too” and “Coffee Bar” have already been released. When asked about his most recent single the singer questions “Have you ever seen those Tik Toks where teens are running around at the airport, see someone around there age and are like that’s the person I’m going to marry? Only they never see that person again for the rest of their lives.” That’s where the story of Coffee Bar came from.
The next single, “Good Day’s” is set to drop March 29th. It’s about heartbreak, but with a positive twist that Jurgensmeyer knows everyone will be able to embrace together.”I started playing the work tape for my friends and it got stuck in their head. Then, when I got the rough track back I played it for a few of my close friends and for the next few days I could hear them humming it. My one friend, Ben said why did you have to play me that? I can’t get it out of my head” Jet recalls. It was a sign that the song needed to be put out as a single.
Social media is extremely important nowadays and this college kid confesses to not being the greatest about keeping up with new content. “If I was going to start being more active on platforms I wanted to be original and be myself. I love music. And I play music all the time. So I have a lot of cover songs” Jurgensmeyer comments. He says it’s a great way to vet songs to play out, and once in awhile he’ll throw in originals he’s thinking of recording.
On the acting front, Jet has been continuing to do voiceover work for Nickelodeon from home. “It’s funny. I’m now the adult person introducing shows that I was on when I was younger. I’m introducing myself, so it’s kind of an inside joke.” He continues going to meetings, and staying involved with the industry.
When the pandemic hit this actor was starring as Boyd Baxter on Last Man Standing. He had portrayed various characters on the Disney Channel and Nickelodean, and guest starred on a handful of ABC shows. Things were going great in the acting world. And then in March of 2020 the pandemic hit. Filming came to a halt. Jet started recording voiceovers for Disney Channel’s T.O.T.S from his basement in Missouri. It was during this time that he turned to music. Something he’d always enjoyed, Jurgensmeyer started writing songs, playing, and recording. He did numerous co-writes over Skype, making virtual connections everywhere.
2023 taught him a lot. “I was 18 for the majority of the year so that was cool, entering adulthood. There’s a lot that comes with that. Buying your first car, figuring out how voting works. I experienced a lot of life in 2023.” says Jet. He graduated high school, and wrote a lot of songs about some the things he’d experienced. Many of these will be on his upcoming album. He’s looking forward to people getting a chance to see the ups and downs of what he went through. Ultimately, the year led to his music getting airplay. “Hearing your songs on the radio, it’s a strange feeling. Terrifying and exciting at the same time because you don’t know if people are liking it or changing the station as soon as it comes on. So that’s stressful. But it’s also a blessing because I get to travel the world and meet new people who do enjoy my music.”
Last November he was elected into the SAG Actors board in Nashville, as the youngest board member. “The rest of 2024 and even looking into 2025, which is crazy because it’s only February. There’s a lot that I’m excited for and a lot that I’m nervous for, but I know that God’s got me. I just have to put my faith and trust in him every day and hope and pray that it all goes well.”
Just a few weeks ago Jurgensmeyer attended the Freedom conference in Orlando, ran by the “Young America’s Foundation”. It’s an organization that is about inspiring young Americans. Teaching that freedom is a great thing. “People take freedom for granted. There are a lot of brave men and women that have paid the ultimate sacrafice so that I could play music and act in front of a camera. And that means a lot to me” Jet realizes. He enjoys going to the confrences to learn more how to spread the word, and is trying to start a chapter at Belmont. “I think the worst thing people can do is stop communicating. People get upset with one another and they stop talking. And that’s when things get bad.”
Jet is also a big supporter of giving back to others. He’s raised over $15,000 for the Ryan Seacrest Foundation and loves being able to meet with the kids, answer their tough questions, and play games and music with them. He strives to brighten their day, making them foreget about whatever it is they are going through if only for a few minutes.
When asked about his favorite roles, this actor has a few. He raved about Tim Allen and Kristoff, saying how great they were to work with. He says Tim Allen is one of the most genuine people he’s ever met. He’ll be on set being loud and cracking jokes one minute. The next, he’s having a serious conversation with you and calling you his friend. To be called a friend by one of your idols is pretty cool. “Hearing that, coming from a young teenager as somebody that I looked up to. Watching and wanting to be like him because he’s such a legendary comic. And he was a big part of my childhood in Buzz Lightyear.” He adds that he never once saw Tim yell unless it was at himself for messing up and wasting everyone elses time. From Allen, Jet learned to be nice to everyone, because you never know who is going to be someone someday. As for Kristoff we’re told he wanted to be a director and writer , so he would always stick around set after his scenes were done to watch and learn. From him Jet learned about portraying a character. “Getting to watch him turn on Kyle, which is the complete opposite of his personality. He’s quiet and the kindest guy, not a goofball, very smart. Getting to watch him, that was him being a true actor, because he’s nothing like his character. So he’d sit in his chair and figure out how Kyle would say his lines, not Kristoff” Jet reminisces.
The Disney Channel movie, Adventures in Babysitting is next on his list. He’s still friends with everyone in the movie, and tells us how rare that is in show business. Lastly, his role in the movie Doubles Knot with Reese Witherspoon. “That was amazing because it was a more serious film. I was the young kid in the film. I had to be the exciting person in a very dark and true story.” Jurgensmeyer says he tries to learn from everything, siting back and embracing what he doesn’t know on each project.
He firmly believes that when you feel more comfortable you have more fun. “You don’t rise to the occasion. You fall to the highest form of your training. I practice like I perform. I rehearse like I’m going to do it in front of 10,000 people. It’s because of that, if I’m nervous I know how to handle it.” He’s started to see a positive change in his performances because of it.
Jet may not be sure where this year will take him, but he believes God will help lead him down the right path. “At the end of the day I’m doing this because it’s what I love to do. And I have to keep that in mind, because if your doing this to please other people than you can’t be happy. You can’t please everyone.” Well said Jet. We wish you the best of luck!
