New Artist Spotlight: Amy Jack

Tell us about your newest project. Where can we check it out?

My latest single “Who The Real Ones Are” is available now to stream wherever you listen to music.

How would you describe your music?

A Warner Brothers A&R from LA one time told me that my music was reminiscent of Sarah McLaughlin. In Nashville, I’ve been told I sound like Bonnie Raitt, and I’ve had friends say my music is a blend of Cher and Willie Nelson with a vintage feel, like Barbra Streisand or Doris Day.

How did you get started?

I got started by moving to Nashville! I really started before though, in Oklahoma City, but I started riding with Grammy winner, Duane Hitchings. Duane co-wrote Rod Stewart’s “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” and we met at the Bluebird. He wrote the theme for Rocky Four and his partner in crime, Don Goodman who wrote “Ol’ Red” for Blake Shelton. You know, the thing in Nashville, it all starts with the song, kind of like Jimmy Buffett. A song that took six minutes to write, “Margaritaville” created a billion dollar empire.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

Merle Haggard, Californian who produced my album – the greatest of all time according to Billboard, Rolling Stone, CMT. My other influences include Willie, Sinatra, the Rolling Stones, Reba; she’s just a magnet. She’s from the same part of Oklahoma that I am. She’s just a supernova. Those are my influences just for starters, but there are many. Elton John is another one. My mother, my grandmother and sister who all taught music. My sister started teaching me piano when I was five or seven. My grandmother taught for decades and my mother taught for decades, so they were my earliest influences.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Well, like the banking industry and so many others, technology has changed our world and it’s changed it for the better, for all of us consumers. It’s just made it tougher for the creators much tougher. If I could change something I would make, I would hope that traditional radio would play many more artists.

What sets you apart from other artists in your genre?

I think a vocal imprint that sounds unlike others.

What is it about music that makes you feel passionate to me?

Music is life and art in its highest and purest form. It lets every single human being express himself and feel alive. That’s why people just can’t help themselves like in the grocery store. They just start singing and dancing and, and, and hallelujah that they do.

What are your career goals in the next five years?

My biggest goal is for a song to become ubiquitous.
