Gayle Scared But Trying Tour

Been a fan of this one for years and she just keeps on getting better. This was Gayle’s first solo headlining tour and I just had to be there to support. She played a 90 minute set to a sold out crowd at Basement East. Her opening act, Dylan from the UK was subpar but the youngsters seemed to like her enough.

Her set included covers of Pink, Joan Jett, Jason Derulo, and Fergie. At one point during the show she noticed one lady in the front trying to get her attention to propose. Gayle stopped and asked the fan if that’s indeed what she was trying to do and wound up proposing to the ladies partner, who said yes. She then asked to be invited to the wedding.

Gayle has always been an entertainer with top notch stage presence, that she’s continued to hone after the past year on the road opening for such artists as Taylor Swift and Pink. Through the fame, this one seems to stay true to herself, real, and vulnerable.

Highlights included “I Love Rock and Roll”, her piano song and the accompaning story.
On this, the Scared But Trying Tour, fans wrote their fears on stickers to display. The goal was to bond together, and indeed, her connection with the audience was strong. They followed her every word and commiserated with her struggles. The intro to “Everybody Hates Me” was especially vulnerable. “It’s been great but very real” Gayle says of her rise to fame this past year.
Her lyrics have definitely matured, the music has evolved. What started as country and singer/songwriter has turned into edgy emo pop. Gayle is high energy, strong vocals.

Of course she closed with her #1 hit “ABCDEFU”, saying. “This song changed my life.”
We’re told there will be an album released in 2024. When that happens Gayle hopes to come back and celebrate by playing The Basement East again. Wherever she plays, I’ll be there cheering her on.
