MUSIC BIZ 2017 IS COMING!!!

Here are just a few of the many things to look forward to from this years music conference!

The Music Business Association (Music Biz) will nurture the next generation of music business executives and entrepreneurs through its Career Development programming at the Music Biz 2017 convention, which will be held May 15-18 at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel in Nashville. Consisting of a series of Career Development Workshops on May 16 and Career Day on May 18, the offerings will teach students, aspiring startup founders, and others looking to break into the industry about how the music business works, provide guidance on the types of careers that are available, and connect attendees with the companies and individuals who will be crucial to landing a job or launching a startup. Another noteworthy workshop is the Music's Leading Ladies Speak Out Session, which superstar Kelly Clarkson will be on hand to speak .

Adele is Music Biz 2017 Artist of the Year and will be honored at the the Music Biz 2017 convention’s Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 18, at the Renaissance Nashville Hotel. Her latest album, 25, was the first ever to sell more than 3 million copies in a single week (3.38 million total in traditional sales), blowing past the 15-year record previously held by NSYNC’s No Strings Attached. It was also the first album to sell more than 1 million copies in multiple weeks since Nielsen began tracking sales in 1991, with 1.11 million traditional sales in its second week and 1.15 million in its holiday-bolstered fifth week. 25 has since been certified Diamond for 10 million in sales by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), with the album and its single “Hello” earning Adele five GRAMMY Awards at this year’s 59th annual ceremony, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Pop Solo Performance.

The Music Business Association will also be presenting prestigious Breakthrough Artist Awards to rising Country star Maren Morris and Pop and Soul artist Lukas Graham at the luncheon. Morris released her debut album for Columbia Nashville, HERO, on June 3, 2016, becoming the label’s first artist of the SoundScan era to top the Billboard Country chart with their first album. Fueled by the Platinum-certified single “My Church,” Morris went on to win New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards, after tying Eric Church and Chris Stapleton for most nominations. She also received the Breakthrough Artist Award at Billboard’s annual Women in Music Gala, and performed on the December 10, 2016, episode of Saturday Night Live. She is also nominated for four 2017 GRAMMY Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “My Church,” and Best Country Album for HERO.

Lukas Graham have solidified their status as the biggest breakout act of 2016, earning three Grammy nominations of their smash single “7 Years,” including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. The Danish band, led by vocalist and songwriter Lukas Forchhammer, propelled to the top of the charts with over 2 billion streams across the globe. Their quadruple-platinum debut single “7 Years” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it the highest-selling single by a debut artist this year, and the third highest-selling single overall. “7 Years” is featured on Lukas Graham’s Certified Gold self-titled debut album, which received overwhelming critical acclaim since its April 1 release, debuting at #3 on the Billboard Top 200 with accolades from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard and more.

Also being honored at the luncheon is Reba McEntire with the Chairman's Award for Sustained Creative Achievement and Paula Abdul with the Harry Chapin Memorial Humanitarian Award!

As for live performances The Music Business Association (Music Biz) has teamed with the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) to host the NSAI Songwriters in the Round live performance event on May 18. The event, which will celebrate the NSAI’s 50th anniversary, will feature Country singer/songwriters Rhett Akins and Rivers Rutherford, who have written 34 chart-topping songs between them, as they play some of their biggest hits and explain the stories behind them.
