You may have seen Faulkner on MTV recently
during their half hour special of
"Soundscapes and Skyscrapers". We spoke
with Dimitri on the phone the other day
and he told us that the band had a blast
filming one of their downtown LA shows on
a rooftop. During the show they premiered
a brand new single "Halo Me".
Faulkner is Bi-coastal. Half of the band
is from New York, the other half
California.. The guys make it work,
splitting their time in each place with a
lot of red-eye flights back and forth.
Members include Lucas Asher, Eric Scullin,
Dimitri Farougias and Christian Hogan.
Faulkner has been blowing up on Youtube,
with their single "Revolutionary" hitting
over 2 million views. I'm told that this
is one of the bands favorites, done at the
end of every show. Faulkner recalls
shooting a music video for it in Hawaii
being epic." There were crazy helicopter
rides over volcanoes. They also filmed it
at Jurassic Falls , where the iconic
Jurassic Park was shot."
Something I find unique and interesting
about this band is that they shoot all
their stuff in monochrome. The effect
keeps a very simple but very powerful look
Songwriting is a collaborative effort.
"Lucas Asher (quarterback) comes up with
ideas. It starts with his vision of what
he wants to do. Everyone else jumps in and
puts their own signature." Faulkner's
sound covers a few decades of musical
influences. There is a lot of 70s punk
(The Clash), with 80s pop melody hooks
(David Bowie) and 90s hip hop (Dr. Dre).
When asked what makes the band stand out
from other artists he says he's never
really thought about it. "We just go out
there and do our thing. It's not a
competition. We put our minds and hearts
together and try to do the best we can to
connect with as many people as we can."
One of the bands proudest moments was
their collaboration with RZA for the song
"NY Anthem". They say it was a dream come
true working with the legendary hip-hop
artist. "It was a real treat and
incredible experience." he adds.
Another proud moment was recently sharing
the bill at Riotfest with artists such as
Iggy Pop, Pixies, Run DMC, No Doubt and
Prodigy. "We grew up listening to and were
influenced by these bands. It was a very
big moment for us."
Faulkner's debut EP "Revanchist" has been
widely received. The band has been getting
a lot of love. People are engaging on
social media. "We're very proud of that
When asked where the band wants to go, the
immediate reply was everywhere. "We love
playing live. We want to hit every stage
we can whether it's a huge or a small dive
club or somewhere in the middle."
Fans interested in seeing one of their
shows can be assured a high-energy
performance with a lot of excitement.
"We're so appreciative of everyone who
comes to check us out. We will never give
them a half-assed show."
The band is looking forward to shooting
the full album during the first part of
The sound will be pretty co-hesive. The
rest of the tracks are in the same vain,
and are ready to be released. The guys
have been writing a lot of new and
slightly different material but that will
be saved for their second album.
What else are they excited about?
"We have a new collaboration coming out
with an amazing MC Rapper" Dimitri can't
tell us anymore than that, but we're sure
it'll be big.
