ALYSON STONER: BREAKING THE MOLD

Had the pleasure of talking with Alyson Stoner a few days ago about her new projects and how she has grown from the child spitfire you first saw on Cheaper By The Dozen, to the poised young woman you see today.

Alyson is totally psyched about her new single "Woman" which came out this week. She describes her  sound as percussive pop/rock with a vibrant International Groove. If you listen closely you can hear Latin and African drums. And of course, being the dancer she is, the song has gotta be something you can dance to. Alyson says the music has allowed her to pursue and grow in her passion of dancing.

Woman was written as a comparison of a dancer from childhood to adult. Autobiographical I asked? Yes. "I'm my greatest obstacle." Alyson comments, saying it took her a long time of being in the LA acting world to realize it is her responsibility to follow her dreams. Not let anyone else, or herself stand in her way. She feels the single gives fans a taste of the real Alyson Stoner, and will help to create a true audience. Living in LA where there is so much fakeness she feels
authenticity is important. Says "It doesn't do me any good to be anything I am not, and it doesn't do fans any good because then they are looking up to someone who isn't real."

Alyson has been using her twitter as a diary she shares, tweeting a lot of inspirational yet personal messages. People are surprised at how open she is, but Alyson says she feels good expressing herself. "I know what it's like to be silent." she shares, adding that she'd rather be open than keep everything inside.

What is her favorite part about all of this? Finding community by sharing her weaknesses. "I am less concerned with being a perfect popstar." Alyson confides. She wants people to get to know her for her. Nobody is perfect, everybody has their flaws, everyone is human. And Alyson wants her fans to see that.

Stoner has an EP slated to be released this fall. Says her songs are on the same essence and appeal as "Woman". Not only does she sing and dance but Alyson is 100% involved in the process of writing, and recording.

Those of you that loved her acting projects, will be happy to hear Alyson has a new one. Her movie "Mr. Invincible", a comedy/adventure/romance comes out this summer. Fans will see Alyson portray a much more mature role.

Talking with Alyson I was impressed with just how genuine, and poised of a young woman she is becoming. I wish her nothing but the best in this next chapter of her life and her journey.
