Your debut EP “Social Isolation” just dropped. What can fans expect?
Yes! I’m so excited for my supporters to hear what I have been working on. They can expect a four song EP with one feature. I’m very excited to share it with the world.
Where did the title come from?
I titled the EP “Social Isolation,” because all four songs on it were produced, written, and recorded during quarantine or this “Social Isolation” period.
What made you decide to make the leap from acting to music?
I’ve always loved music, but it wasn’t until about a year ago that I wanted to learn how to make music. One day, I was scrolling through YouTube and I stumbled across a video from Internet Money Records. It was a tutorial on how to make melodic trap beats. I watched the video, and for the whole 10 minutes, I was completely mesmerized. I have always enjoyed music, but I never really cared about how it was made. This video definitely rocked my world in the best way. I grabbed my laptop and immediately started clicking around on GarageBand. I took drum and music theory lessons and became proficient on Logic Pro X, a professional music software. I’ve been using it ever since. I am able to make my beats, write my songs, and record on it.
The past year has hit the Entertainment Industry hard with the Pandemic. What has kept you going during the rough times?
There is no question about it, 2020 was a crazy year. Honestly, I would say the thing that kept me going during the rough times was music. I feel so fortunate to have a home studio. I decided early in the quarantine that I wanted to use the downtime to make the EP. Music ended up being a tool to release my emotions. It was actually very therapeutic.
What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
Hopefully going to the skatepark and hanging out with friends! I missed that so much this past year because of the pandemic and hopefully we go back to a somewhat normal world.
What are your plans as far as the EP goes? Any shows (in person or livestream)?
Yes! We will be doing music videos for two of the four songs on the EP. I would love to do a livestream as well.. That would be so amazing!
You also star on Disney Channel’s “Sydney To The Max”. What can we expect coming up on the show?
We are back in production on Season 3! I can’t spill too much tea, but I can say be prepared to watch my character Young Max and his future wife’s relationship grow.
What do you want fans to take away from this EP?
I hope my supporters take away a couple of things. First, I want them to be inspired to take a moment every day to find joy in their life. Everyone has something, no matter how small it is that they can be happy about. The second thing I hope that listeners take away is that it can productive to take emotions and pour them into your passion. Using your passion as an outlet can be very fulfilling.
How would you describe your music? And what exactly is trap?
I would describe my music as melodic, passionate, and heartfelt. Trap is a sub-genre of hip hop, characterized by complicated high hat patterns and atmospheric synths. I wouldn’t necessarily describe my music as trap music, but I would say that some of the tracks could be sub-classified as trap. My production is similar to trap music, but my vocal melodies and lyrics are more on the pop side.
Do you have a favorite track on the EP and why?
Yes! My favorite song on the EP is “Moonlight.” I really like that song because I feel like anyone can enjoy it. It’s upbeat and melodic and the feature by an artist named Kish fits the song perfectly.
Anything else you would like to add?
My debut EP “Social Isolation,” is out now on all platforms. Also, stay on the lookout for all new episodes of Sydney to the Max on Disney Channel.
