Meet Avenue Beat

Introduce yourself.
We met when we were 14 at a theater camp in our hometown. We began hanging out and singing covers just for fun. We would take trips to Nashville in high school for writing sessions, and we knew that we were going to move down as soon as we graduated and begin our career here.

How would you describe your sound?
Writing music for us was just fun. In all of our songs, we just began writing about the things we talk about, worry about, and live out day-to-day. I think that our music has become relatable for Millennials and Gen Zers because they’ve become more responsive to our candid songs.

Tell us about your new song F2020. Where did the song come from?
We were all having a pretty bad year, between Sami’s cat passing away and the generally terrible things happening in the world, I just wanted to make a song that felt empowering. We decided to post the song to Tik Tok because we loved the song, but thought that we could never release it because we used the f-word like 46 times. But we’re so glad that we posted the song because we found a community of people who really appreciated what we were doing and really related to the song.

What made you decide to write a song about 2020?
We just felt so frustrated about the streams of bad luck that we were facing in 2020, and wanted to find something to scream-sing and get our emotions out. We knew that we weren’t the only ones feeling this way, and we wanted to share our song with people and let them know that they’re not the only ones struggling or feeling defeated this year.

How has 2020 affected you?
We touched on this earlier, but we just had one bad thing happen after another, and they eventually built up and made for a terrible year. We knew we weren’t the only ones feeling this way, so we wanted to make a song that would express our frustration.

How do you stay positive during this uncertain time?
We have learned to embrace the circumstances. We’ve visited family and taken advantage of writing together and individually. We also love connecting with people and posting on Tik Tok and Instagram and sharing snippets of new songs with a really supportive community. It’s been a really cool experience connecting with so many people this way.

Who are your musical influences?
I think our backgrounds in musical theater really influence our music. We love to add emotionally powerful moments in our music, and I think that listeners really feel that when they listen to our music. We all grew up listening to different music. Savana listened to Top 40, Sami is inspired by classic rock and Sam grew up on country music, so we all have a different flavor that goes into our music.

How did you get started in music?
We met in our hometown and loved singing and writing together, and it soon turned into taking trips to Nashville to write with other people. One night, we opened for our friend, Vinny at a show in Nashville, and we met our current manager that night. After that night, it solidified our dream to move down to Nashville after graduation and to pursue music.

What is on your bucket list to do this year?
We’re always working toward releasing new music. With the strange circumstances that 2020 has brought, we’ve had the creative freedom to write whenever we feel inspired and recharge when we need to take a break.

What are your career goals in the next 5 years?
We’d love to just continue to release new music that people can relate to. It’s a really exciting feeling posting a demo to a song that we’re really excited about and having such a supportive community on Tik Tok and Instagram.

Anything else you would like to add?
Thank you all so much for supporting our music. Be sure to check out “F2020” and keep up with us on Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
